History and Experience

Thomas Surprenant has been a professional makeup artist for twenty-two years and has instructed others in makeup techinques for over seventeen years. In the course of his career Thomas has been nominated for two Emmy awards. In 1995, for his work on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, he won the Emmy for "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Makeup". His work has been featured on the covers of Fangoria and Rue Morgue Magazine and in the pages of Men's Health Magazine and Inside Motorcross.

Thom is a licensed cosmetologist with many years of experience in skin care and product knowledge. He is the Owner of Thomas Surprenant Creations, providing specialty products for the film, television, and print industries. His makeup skills are in constant demand both in beauty, special character, and makeup effects.

Thom has been part of two Academy Award-winning makeup crews. Most recently he has worked on X-Men 3, Vacancy, and Big Fish. He has provided special prosthetic paint for The Santa Claus 1-3, The Scorpion King, Terminator 3, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Thom has a long list of television and movie credits. Some of the more recognized projects include such shows as, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Strong Medicine, Providence, Star Trek: Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise.

Movie Credits include: Vacancy, X-Men III (The Last Stand), Big Fish, Frida, The Scorpion King, A.I., Riding In Cars With Boys, Donnie Darko, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Dead Hate The Living, Charlie’s Angels, Unglued, Halloween H2O (Halloween 7), The People Vs. Larry Flynt, Star Trek (First Contact), The Crow II (City Of Angels), Set It Off, Showgirls, Desperado, Batman Forever, Coneheads, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Some celebrities Thom has worked with include: Brad Pitt, Hillary Swank, David Duchovny, Grace Jones, Ellen Degeneres, Jo Beth Williams, Tia and Tamera Mowry, Michael Madsen, Rutger Hauer, F. Murray Abraham, and Indigo.

Thom's personal interest in history, science, crime investigation and medical sciences has helped his profesional career in designing and fabricating asthetically correct makeup. Throughout his career Thom has advanced his development to create accurate reproductions. When not heading a department or working on other projects, Thom is often called in as a technical advisor.

Always on the leading edge of his trade and constantly seeking to improve his craft, Thom says that, "since the beginning, the Entertainment Industry has relied on us to create bigger and grander makeup creation.
